With being on the feild for the last eight months I cave come to the realization that there are many things you need to be/have in order to survive the race. So, here is a list of some important traits needed to be a successful WR.
1. You should be Good at Charades. The reasons behind this is kind of self explanatory. You are going to different countries with different cultures where they speak different languages. Charades is going to be your number 1 communicator if you don’t speak the language.
2. Have a Teachable Heart, Mind and Soul. If you aren’t willing to be taught you are going to have a really sucky time. The whole race is about you growing in your relationship with the Lord, others, and yourself. Be willing, be open, and learn to appreciate feedback early on. It’s so helpful.
3. You can live off of a Small Budget/Self-controlled. If you have been a racer you know what it looks like to live in the middle of no where(litterally) but you also know what it looks like to live in some boujee places. To be successful you should be willing to not splurge and to save that money that you have for better things or even be willing to let the Lord do something with it.
4. Strong Immunity. Alright this one is kind of unfair to some people, but if you pray for the Lord to strengthen you I’m sure He will. Side note, you really shouldn’t be sacred to try new things and to push yourself. Sickness on the race isn’t overly fun but it does provide some really cool one on one time with the Lord.
5. You Can Sleep Anywhere. If you can sleep anywhere you are well on your way to having some pretty awesome naps especially travel days.
6. Be Flexible. Be ready to have the schedule you thought you had change about a dozen times before it is maybe set in stone. Flexibility is the key to sucess on the race. Just go with the flow and have no expectations and you’ll have the time of your life.
7. Be Open Minded. Allow what you thought you knew to be true to be molded. My mind has been blown by many different things throughout the race.
8. Have Moderate Fitness. You should have a workout routine that you do at home already in practice before leaving for the race and try as best as you can to continue it during the race. It will help with your weight, health, and confidence. Plus it’s also some really good time with the Lord if you bring Him into it.
9. Be Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable. Many times on the race you will be uncomfortable and that’s ok. We can grow a lot in those moments and what I’ve learned is to take that uncomfortability and praise/thank God for all the blessings and good He has given me in that moment.
10. Ask Questions. Always ask questions. Be a good questioner. This is the best way to learn about yourself, others, culture, countries, and people. I’ve also come to the realization that people love talking about themselves, their family, their culture, and their life. Don’t be afraid to ask hard questions either. Everyone can learn and grow from just one person asking a question.
Over all just be willing to grow, go with the flow, learn, serve, adventure, and love people unconditionally. There is so much more but I’ll leave it at this. Keep that Kingdom Mindset and you will be set.
