He has the most adorable smile, one that kind of takes your breath away. His laugh makes me laugh! He likes long strolls around the park, and has a soft spot for animals. He loves loves loves to eat. He enjoys doing the tango, and wouldn’t let me stop! He oozes joy – and it’s contagious. He’s probably the biggest day brightener you will ever meet. He has down syndrome. He’s two and a half, and he melted my heart!
In China, my team and I had the privilege of working at a home for disabled and orphaned children. For the safety of the organization, there’s not too much I can say, no pictures I can post of the children that I had the joy of spending all of my days with. I want you to know that China taught me so much about the Father’s heart for us. Just getting to love these kids everyday was such a gift – and a good reminder of how much the Lord has for us if we simply rest in Him. It was refreshing for my heart, a perfect way to end eleven months on the field. When you lavish others with love a joy is awoken in you! We prayed for the children and staff each morning and I was consistently led back to this scripture: “A Father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing.” Psalm 68:5-6
He never leaves us as orphans, He puts us in families (the body of Christ is one) and lets us know that He is completely FOR us. If you are interested in learning more about the specific organization that I was with in China, please contact me via the link to the left. They are in constant need of financial support, baby clothes, and volunteers! Please join in praying with me for the MANY orphans in China. Pray that these kids will continue to receive the special care that they need. Pray for wisdom for the doctors as these kids undergo surgeries and receive medications that are helping to prevent life-threatening illnesses. Pray for endurance and renewal for all of the caretakers – as the nurses and teachers continually are pouring out their energy to best raise these children. Pray that families will step forward to adopt.
