This month, we worked with an organization called POPUP where they not only teach adults skills for simple jobs like sewing, office, and plumbing, but also invest in their hearts in some really big ways. It is a government-sponsored, christian run organization so they offer super affordable courses (100 Rand/ 6 USD), but before they can even begin their courses, all of the learners (students) must participate in a 3-week long life skills course. In life skills, they talk about everything that is apart of a person’s foundation in their life. They talk about who God is and what He looks like in the trinity. They teach them about the spiritual realm versus the physical world and what we are to do with that. They talk about what brokenness looks like and how to begin the healing process and freedom process in their own lives. We all got to be a part of that this month. Once they’ve gone through that course, the learners begin their skills course, but continue the life skills through a class called CPR (Continuous Personal Recovery). We were in charge of teaching the CPR class at POPUP and we talked about all things identity so everything from confidence in the Lord to having a servant’s heart to all sorts of others in between. We had a lot of fun with some of our classes and others needed more discipline so we had to be a bit tougher, but all in all, we got to know the learners pretty well and it was quite the experience. We also helped build a greenhouse to grow spinach, cabbage, and some other veggies and we helped out with a daily soup kitchen. There are four germans who live at POPUP as full-time volunteers-Harry, Mike, Simeon, and Mara. They are younger than us, but they have been at POPUP since August and won’t leave until July. We had so much fun with them.. they were our chauffeurs for the month, after all!

We also did a lot of activities this month! We saw Mumford & Sons in concert, went to Passion, and visited Cape Town! Passion was so refreshing and its always encouraging to be surrounded by so many believers and have some legit worship and a word. Now, Cape Town blew my mind away. We did a Red Bus city tour on Saturday where we stopped off at Table Mountain, Camps Bay, and Groot Constantia. Then, on Sunday, we went SHARK CAGE DIVING! Coolest thing I’ve done so far! Monday, we went to Boulders Beach where there are loads of penguins and onwards to Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope. Wow! That was absolutely phenomenal. I’ve never seen anything like it. Not only is it the tip of Africa, but its also where the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean converge.
