My bags were packed up for the month and I had one last afternoon to stroll through the colorful Indian markets. It had been a difficult month for P-Squad. As hard as it was to even think about moving forward without Vanessa (See Through it All), I knew God was calling me to take the next step – to have the courage to follow him no matter how shaky the road may get.
As we walked past henna artists and through the stalls overflowing with silk saris and burning incense, I saw a couple of other squad mates who were grabbing a bite to eat in the market. I went over to say hello and this is when I learned about the devastating earthquake in Nepal. The death count was increasing, the airport was closed, and the likelihood that an entire squad of World Racers would be traveling to Kathmandu in less than 36 hours was dwindling.
In the meantime, we were rerouted to a less adventurous, but more stable debrief location in Hyderabad, India. I was thankful to be safe but the last thing I wanted was to spend another week (or possibly month) in India. God had already shown us that he entrusted this squad with pain – how could we sit around India…
Knowing how close we were to those who were hurting in Nepal.
Knowing that the earthquake was not a surprise to God.
Knowing that the Holy Spirit is not interested in my comfort or safety.
Knowing in my heart that He sent us for such a time as this.
Then we got the news I had been praying for – one of the ministry contacts in Kathmandu notified AIM that they could use our squad in the aftermath of the earthquake and informed us that we would not be a burden on their resources – so we got the go ahead to go to Nepal after all!
Tomorrow I will be in route to Kathmandu with my new team – Team Victory (minus Kate who will be heading back to the USA for 1 month to continue recovering from the accident. Please keep her, Vanessa, the rest of P-Squad, and all of Nepal in your prayers!)
