Hey Friends!

I will be leaving for the Philippines soon!  It has been a busy and bittersweet time getting ready to leave.

I am scheduled to arrive in the Philippines October 10th.  I will be in the city, Antipolo, which is next to Manila the capital city.  The languages spoken are Tagalog and English, and the currency used is the Philippine peso.  Lodging is bunkbeds and floor provided by a host home.  Food will be prepared by the host.  Transportation will typically be by van, tricycle, and Jeepneys.

The ministry my team will be partnering with is called Children’s Garden of the Philippines. Their website is childrensgarden.ph.  Children’s Garden is a residential care for former street boys ages 12-18.  These are boys who came from hard core and delinquent background — drugs, solvent, gangs, abuse, and most, if not all of them, came from a fatherless home.  Through this ministry, God has changed their lives and now, by the grace of God, they are now living their lives with hope and meaning. The program includes education, skills training, discipleship, and aftercare (for boys 18 and above).  The ministries goal is for these young men to be Godly men, men after God’s own heart, that in the future they will be great husbands, responsible fathers, future leaders, and law abiding, productive Filipino citizens.  My team will spend time with daily discipleship and mentoring and helping with outreaches.

Pre-World Race has been a bittersweet time.  I did not expect to have to leave Myrtle Beach so suddenly from Hurricane Flo.  It has been difficult not being able to say “good-bye” or “see-ya-later” to some friends and very difficult to say “good-bye” or “see-ya-later” to family.  It has been great to spend time with my family, rest, slow down, eat good Southern food, and bike.

Here are some pictures of my time pre-World Race:
