“teach us to live well “, ” teach us to realize the brevity of life” – Psalm 90:12

The Lord has promised us an extraordinary life. However, it is so easy to reminisce on the past or think about the future that we forget to embrace the joys of today.

It is so so incredibly easy for my mind to wander to the places I will be and people I will be with next year. It is so easy for me to see pictures or read other World Racers’ blogs and to dream of my life next year.  I catch myself constantly looking back on Guatemala pictures reminiscing on those beautiful days. But I don’t want to be so focused on those beautiful days that I miss the beauty in today.

“God deals out joy in the present, the now” – Ecclesiastes 5:18-20

I feel like so much of our lives are centered around what is going to happen next. With it being my senior year, I can’t even count how many of my conversations are about plans for college or life after high school. Heck, if I had a dollar for every time I was asked my what I was doing next year, I would be fully funded for the World Race!

The idea of missions and mission trips is usually is associated with traveling to foreign places to love and serve the people the Lord has called you to. However, what about the people the Lord has placed in my life today? We are called to pick up our cross daily and serve/love the people around us. How can we expect the Lord to use us for his glory over there, when we are not living life on a mission here, in the present?

All that to say, that though I am beyond pumped for all the Lord has in store for this next chapter of my life,  I can’t let myself focus on that. I want to be here with the amazing people the Lord has blessed me with. Though I’m sure the Lord’s got some crazy cool stuff planned for next year, I don’t want to miss what He has planned of the six months ahead of that.

So, my goal and prayer is to be where my feet are at the moment. To appreciate all the amazing people in my life right now. Time flies, and before I know it I will be far far away from home. I want to look back on this time and think of all the amazing memories made here, knowing I made the most out of each and every day. My goal is to realize the significance of today and to be fully engaged in the moment.

Seize the day!

” This is the day the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it ” – Psalm 118:24
