Speaking from the perspective of a foodie, I was shocked to be told that most women GAIN weight on the race. In my mind, I was prepared to starve and pick bugs off of monkeys in order to survive. I was envisioning carrying a 20 gallon water bucket on my head 7 miles both ways and trying to start my own fire to purify the water. Have you seen the first few seasons of Survivor? Yeah…that’s where my head was.

Needless to say, I was overjoyed when I started doing research to find out that we will be eating copious amounts of CARBS. The bullet points found in multiple blogs of other racers were potatoes, rice, and tortillas. A girl can rest easy.

Another question that people (*cough cough* MOM) keep asking me is why I can’t receive mail on the race. Apparently someone (mom) wants to send me care packages and is distraught by the idea that it simply isn’t possible. The reason we can’t receive mail is because 1. the places we will be traveling to are not established enough to have reliable postal service, and 2. we will be moving once a month so we won’t be in a location long enough for the mail to come to us. We WILL be able to mail things home, so if you have some weird souvenir you have been dying to get, we might be able to arrange something.

We will be able to buy things in other countries. I’ve been told that Oreos are a worldwide sensation and can be found everywhere. I’m also pretty stoked about getting my hair braided in Africa…I might even add beads–>there will definitely be pictures involved.

Because we can’t receive mail, I am asking that you all consider writing me a letter or note of encouragement to take with me to open at some point during the race. You can mail them to my home address at:

447 Castile Ave, El Paso, TX 79912

Label them with the month/country you’d like me to open them! I’m looking forward to blogging about my adventures and updating you all on the amazing things God is doing, the food that I’m eating, and the struggles that He is helping my team overcome.

Much love!
