Tomorrow marks 1 week since arriving in Romania. And it's been one really cold week. The temperature right now is about 15 degrees, at night it averages around -10 degrees. The snow is beautiful and is piling up as I speak – the way it weighs down the tree branches is something special to see – it makes me wish they had more pine trees in these parts, however. That's one of my favorite views.
The skies at night are hard to describe. There's something special about a night sky speckled with stars and the smoke from chimneys that makes me want to stand outside all night. It also makes me wish I had a green laser pointer to point out the night sky's constellations – the little dipper is hard to point out to others who don't know where it is.
Ministry this month is turning into something different yet refreshing. A lot of what we're doing this month is winding up to be team building. There isn't a lot of work to do around here, aside from splitting wood for the furnaces (which is never-ending). Being here reminds me a lot of growing up in the Michigan winters. I chopped a bit of wood yesterday, and wound up dinging myself with the axe. My right shin is fine, there's a bit of a bruise, but nothing broke the surface, praise God. He's blessed me with overall good health so far. No hospital visits, no malaria, no need for medicine (other than the occasional ibuprofen). I'm so very thankful for that!
We're finding ways to pour into the community while we're here – with going to see Marisca (blog on her later!) and getting milk from Sofia, an older woman who lives across the street. It's also been great to pour into Mi Hai (blog on him in the works) and hear about his life. He asked us for some advice earlier today about a matter at his church. It's great to know that he trusts us and values our opinions after knowing him for such a short time.
I'm also excited to pour into my team as well as the team we're paired up with this month, 220. Check their blogs out! Kip Deaton, Chris and Amanda Britton, Kevin Vanderwal, Ashley Edwards, Charlene Geddes, and Tim Eisaman. They write amazing blogs! My team is doing a morning bible study, at 7 am! Ya'll know that's crazy! The first few mornings are going to be tough, that's for sure 🙂 But, I'm excited to go deeper with my team – it seems like it would be an easy thing to do, but we have to be very intentional about it otherwise other things can easily distract us.
