Gail & grandchildren!
I met Gail at Checkers, a small grocery store about a 10 minute walk from the Hostel. Gail works there as a sample person on Friday and Saturdays. She is the most lively sample person I have ever met. She is so effervescent and vivacious and just draws people to herself. It's a beautiful thing to witness. Along with being lively, she is also very outspoken about her faith. And that was and is so refreshing, most especially coming out of China.
Bea met Gail frist when she asked if Bea would pray for an athiest with her. I met her while eating some of the delicious samples she made. Eventually she invited a few of us Fuego girls to church. We had to decline the first weekend, but we (as Fuego +Ann) were about to go the following weekend.
Gail & her Husband along with her sister picejdd us up at 7:30 Sunday morning. Her church was wonderful, very charismatic and bustling. The people were very friendly and receptive to us, because we were first time visitors and also because we were foreigners. They were very happy that we had decided to attend their church. The word (what I could understand 🙂 was very on point, talking about living in the Spirit and like Jesus. It was backed by a lot of scripture verses and it was really nice. Brought about a lot of thought after the matter on what it looks like to leave my thoughts and desires, wants and hopes behind to focus only on Jesus.
After service, we went to Gail's house and ate a literal feast: 6 courses of deliciousness. Well, only 5 for me 🙂
- 2 seafood platters filled with shrimp, calamari, crab cakes, mussels, pieces of crab & a crab lettuce wrap
- Meat platter & cheesy roasted vegetables.
- Chicken curry with jasmine rice & a pickled cucumber salad. So flavorful!
- milk tart & carrot cake
- fruit salad + ice cream & caramel sauce
- scones: one 1/2 with butter and cheese, the other with apricot jam & whipped cream.
All in all it was amazing and delicious. We legitimately felt like kings and queens. The treatment we received from that family made us feel so blessed and just like a part of their family. They are such an encouragment to me, continually pointing me towards Christ and reminding me that He is our provider and when we follow him he blesses us greatly.
Before we left, Gail also blessed me with a beautifully croched shirt that she had. It's beautiful and purple and was perfect, because I was able to wear it to a funeral the next Tuesday.
I love that God is my provider and that I can always trust in Him. I love the things he gives us that we didn't even think of, like the shirt. It reminds me of his future grace and his love for me to give me beautiful things.
