Today was our first full day of ministry here in Padre las Casas, a small community about an hour up the mountains from San Juan. We've only been in the DR for two days but it's already been a total roller coaster! My team and I have been so blessed by Pastor Meco, our contact here, and the hospitality of the people of this amazing village.
We were shocked when we arrived and the church had a lovely 3 bedroom apartment waiting for us with a kitchen and bathroom to boot! Before you get too jealous, we didn't get away scott free – yesterday alone our toilet overflowed and flooded a river into our apartment four seperate times, we killed more than one cockroach and our electricity was off more than it was on. But we mopped up the water with laughter and had an all-out dance party by oil lamp when there was no power.
Every time there was even the slightest issue, Pastor Meco was at our door within minutes to come to the rescue. His willingness to serve those who are here to serve him and his concern over us has brought tears to my eyes more than once already. I can't believe we get to stay here for three more weeks! So blessed.
