I’ve spent the past few days teaching English. We have class in the morning, help prepare and serve the children their lunch, and then teach another class in the afternoon.
The night before we went into the school I was so nervous. I worried, “What if I’m really bad at this?” and “What if they don’t understand or just don’t want to learn?”. But as soon as we got there and jumped right into it, I was blown away by these kids. They are so intelligent and eager to learn – honestly, I think I’m learning more Spanish than they are English!
After class today, one of the little girls named Annie came up to me and with her arms around my waist said, “Hermanas porque tenamos Christo en nuestros corazones.” Which roughly translated means, “We are sisters because we have Christ in our hearts.”
Holy. Cow. That moment personified why I’m doing the World Race. The fact that no matter where you live, what language you speak or how well off you are, we are brothers and sisters if we have Christ in our hearts. I wish everyone could be blessed with Annie’s ability to see things so simply.
