Training Camp…life changing.
While preparing for TC I was apprehensive, I felt like a 7th grader, concerned about whether or not people would like me, if I would fit in, would I find friends, if I would be cool enough and then I arrived at the airport and it all went away. The people that I have met and become friends, dare I say, family with, in the short ten days are nothing short of amazing!
This crazy group of 36 men and women were placed in ridiculous situations (future World Racers, you’ll find out when you get there, everyone else, if you ask me I’ll tell you) with each other and somehow made it to the other side with grace and love for one another. If this is any indication of how the next 11 months will go, I am thrilled for every one of us!
I thought I hadn’t prepared enough; lots of people had read all of the blogs of former racers and had gear that I didn’t even know existed or were talking about simulations I hadn’t heard of. I think I actually had the upper hand. I didn’t know what to expect and spent almost zero time worrying or fretting about it. The secret is, that is how they do it, they tell you what you need to know when you need to know it in hopes that it will prepare you for your race.
People; be on time, bring your own watch, something that doesn’t need to be charged. I don’t know how many times I had to ask someone for the time because I assumed we would be allowed to charge our electronics. Also, I swore I would never ever do it…I did it, socks and sandals happened and they happened a lot. Our training camp was in October, this meant chilly mornings and chilly evenings, sockos were life altering and I still managed to make it home with a great Chaco tan.
Folks, I realize this blog isn’t nearly as in depth or all consuming as some you may read. I am having a difficult time finding the words to communicate just what those 10 days in Georgia and God have done to me, through me and in me. Processing all that happened is going to be a long process (see what I did there). I’ll be writing more and more as I gather my thoughts and get prepared to head out.
Our squad will head to ATL again in January and from there head to our first country, Peru. I am looking forward to seeing everybody again. My mind is racing most days; all of the things I need to get done before we leave and how to find quality time with friends and family before that happens. Oh, and FUNdraising, yes, fundraising. If you would prayerfully consider contributing you can do so here at the “Support Me!” link. I have a few other ideas up my sleeves but this is the most efficient and tax deductible, wink, wink. Thanks for taking the time to read through this. I appreciate it!
