10/15/10

I was reading my bible tonight and came across this quote by Mother Theresa…”Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls…We can do no great things-only small things with great love.”

This is what I was thinking while watching the boys that have come over to spend the night. They do not have an easy life and we can’t do a whole lot to change that, but we can show them love. Josue used thinner a couple days ago and admitted it for the first time to Tony. He was invited and has decided to stay at the center for a week. We hope it will be good for him to be away from some of his friends and to hang out with our guys and be mentored.

I’m freezing up here in the mountains so it’s sleeping bag time. Goodnight all!

Top Ten…Make That 11

1.      When you enter any form of public transportation, you have no idea how long you will really be on there. There is also no such thing as any vehicle being too full.

2.      The driving! I have never seen such insane passing. They use horns around here just to let you know where they are.

3.       Watch out for the bulls. They are usually fine walking around except when you are on a small path with barbed wire on both sides and the stray dogs start barking at the cows. This is when you start praying that they don’t stampede and walking very fast.

4.      Loving the trucks that stop so you can pile in the bed. Hitch hiking works kids.

5.      The washing machine. You need to turn off the water once it’s full or it just keeps running. Christy and Alex recreated the flood.

6.      The shower. The one near the washing machine is the only one with hot water…sort of. The trick is only turning it on lightly and don’t reach up and touch the head. There are wires and there have been a couple near electrocutions.

7.      The refrigerator. It broke.

8.      The stove. It’s awesome once the circuit breaker is on. Watch the two burners on the left. They shock you.

9.      You start thinking the lizards are cool because they kill the giant moths and mosquitoes. In fact you name them. One of the boys broke the tail off one tonight. The scorpions are never cool.

10. Team debrief time in the hammocks. I’m a pro at getting in Alex. You won’t need stitches again. J

11. Half the team vomiting. Not funny at the time. I especially liked coming back to the center and seeing Alan laying on the front lawn (really no lawn, mostly dirt) with a roll of toilet paper under his head. Too weak to even walk inside and saying crazy things like, “put me in coach”. He was just pretending to be out of it and I was starting to get really worried until he started laughing. Later he took a turn on the bathroom floor. I felt so bad for all of them. Pray for us!

Serious note…6 out of the 13 of us have been pretty sick. Mucho vomiting. I’ve emptied more vomit pots then I can count. We sent two members to the hospital, but they are home now and doing great. They needed to mostly just be treated for dehydration. I won’t mention names because all parents may not know yet. Please pray for the ones that aren’t feeling so great yet and that no one else gets sick. I’m really thankful I’ve been feeling good. I’m just tired!
