Hey Team (and whoever else may read this)!  I figured it was time to write something here. It’s pretty exciting. The first of many blogs.  So here is a little bit about me.  I’m 26 years old.  I’m an R.N.  I have a great family.  My parents have been married for almost  30 years and have six children.  I’m their oldest and I’m going to miss them all so much when I leave on this adventure.  My family,  for the most part, are excited for this once in a lifetime opportunity.  I think many people have those grandparents (or someone in their life)  that are a bit concerned about this slightly crazy sounding trip around the world.  I’m sure many of you can relate.

What do I like to do while not thinking about the upcoming Race or working?  I love to hang out with my family and friends.  If Chinese food or really any food is involved it’s even better.  I love music and singing.  Live shows are awesome.  I love driving around in my Jeep with the top down:), kayaking or any water sport, hanging out in the country, bonfires, the beach, log cabins, riding horses, rock climbing, working out, playing cards, reading, movies (BRAVEHEART is the best movie ever), and going to my church!

There are many preparations to be made before October.  One of many things I have to do is quit my job and I like my job!  So what makes me want  to do all the things I have to do to get ready for the World Race?  I have been interested in the WR since it began in 2006.  I have done many short term mission trips and just thought it was a great idea, one that would change lives.  The WR has really grown since then!  I was sitting in my room a few months ago thinking about my life.  I have a good life.  I have a great  family and friends.  I’m finished school (for now).  I have many of the “things” I’ve worked hard for, but I still knew I wanted something more or maybe just different.  I believe that some events over the past year have been God’s way of saying, “Now is the time to GO.”  I want to share with other people the one thing that can never be taken away.  The one thing I am sure of in my own life.  The joy and freedom that can only be found in Jesus.  “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love,”  Galatians 5:6.  I also have maybe more selfish reasons for doing the WR. I love to travel.  I want to see more of the world, hold orphans, and experience my own personal spiritual growth.  I want to walk more by faith.

“There are so many ways to hide
There are so many ways not to feel
There are so many ways to deny what is real

And I just showed up for my own life
And I’m standing here taking it in and it sure looks bright

Oh the glory of God is man fully alive
Oh the glory of God is man fully alive”

P.S.  If anyone has advice about backpacks or has bought a good one, I would love to hear it! I need help with knowing about the best long-term camping/hiking gear.  The only camping I’ve done is for a weekend in warm weather and something tells me this will be a bit different 🙂
