I am going to be honest when I say that community on the world race is hard but so worth it. So I am going to try and give you some idea of what community is like and tell you how it makes the race a unique experience.

So you signed up to do this crazy adventure called the world race, it sounds appealing talking about Jesus to people you meet all over the world and getting to travel to 11 countries. But something that is huge and hard to avoid is how many people you will be doing life with for the entire race. You will get put on a team with complete strangers and have to do life with them and ministry and try and form a friendship with people you normally wouldn’t lean into at home and you realize that Jesus is the reason you can be friends.

My squad had the same teams for the first 6 months of race, so what that meant is when we had team changes it was hard. You learned so much about the other people you lived with and you got through hard stuff but in the end you knew this would happen. And you also were aware of how you would have to start over with an entire different team! Now that is a change and ultimate trust in the lord that he has your best interest at heart.

But as hard as community is on the race it is something that will push you in new ways. You may have never lived with someone else except your parents so seeing how people live is cool, or just getting the chance to go after one another in a loving way and just seeing how to love someone well, or random dance parties cause you have nothing else to do. These are just a few things that make community so worth it. Yes you may disagree on how much people eat on the teams small budget or where people put all there things and you kick it all the time. But the fact that you have people who gave up 11 months to go live and work with strangers is a bond nothing can break.

Community is hard of course but the lord is cool and will make this one of the best things about the race if you let it. So don’t be freaked out by maybe living with 20 girls and just trying to figure out life cause in the end you will laugh till you cry and just get a chance to see Gods glory in other people.
