Before I ramble about pre-race adventures, what is the World Race?
The World Race is an 11-month Christian mission trip to 11 countries around the world. One country each month.
My tent, backpack, and sleeping bag will be my home, closet, and bed for the journey.
In each country, my team and I will partner with local missionaries and established ministries to help meet the need of their community. Ministry will look different every month, but we want to be a tangible expression of God’s love to the world. We might be sharing the Gospel, praying for people door-to-door, teaching English, playing with orphans, caring for people suffering from AIDS, planting churches, or ministering to victims of human trafficking. In all things, we hope to bring the restoration and healing of God’s love to many tribes and nations.
Speaking of my team, I will travel with a squad of 40-60 people. There are 5 squads launching in September, and each has a different route of 11 countries. Once my squad arrives at our next country, we spread out to different cities as teams of 6-8 people.
My team will be like my family for the year. We will do life together as we live, serve, and travel around the world. In real, raw community, we will encourage and challenge each other to stretch, grow, and mature. Coming from a relatively small immediate family, this might not be easy for me, but we’ll see!
Our housing accommodations will also look different every month. To be flexible and available wherever God leads us, I will be bringing a backpack, sleeping bag, and tent! I will pack everything I can into 70 L, which hopefully won’t weigh more than I do. We might be sleeping in our tents, on a church floor, in dorms, with host families, in a bus, in the airport, or basically wherever our ministry site has space for us.
