Hello! My name is Amanda. I love Jesus, people, adventures and stories. I dread writing “About Me” and prefer sharing stories over coffee or bonfires.
BUT since you might be miles away, here are 11 things about me:
- I’m just a girl who loves Jesus. I want to follow Him and love people with all of my heart.
I’m not a saint God’s called to the nations, but I am learning to love God and say YES to His plans.
I want to know the God who created life with His words. The God who graciously gave His own child, so I could know Him. The One who reminds me I am free from shame and alive in Christ. His stories are greater than I could ever imagine, and it’s an honor to be part of them.
- I grew up in Olympia, Washington with my parents and twin, Matthew. We were born almost 10 weeks early and couldn’t even fit newborn clothes! Matthew has undiagnosed disabilities and gradually lost his vision, mobility, speech, and hearing over the years. We were a lot of work for our parents and really still are. My family has shaped my life more than I even realize. Being apart for 11 months will be a first.
- I am 5 feet and a 1/4 inch short, or 5 feet and a 1/2 inch if the nurse is optimistic.
- I am 100% Chinese, but I don’t speak Chinese yet.
- I have an adorable dog named Chewie who looked like a Wookiee until his first haircut.
- I decided to follow Jesus at Awanas when I was 6. I went to bring-a-friend night with my neighbors and still go to the same church today. My family didn’t go to church at the time, but they love Jesus now too.
- I graduated from Washington State University. GO COUGS! I have a BA in Social Science, which ironically has nothing to do with social work or sociology.
- I did gymnastics, choir, dance, and musical theatre growing up. I like the idea of running. I don’t know how to swim, but I float really well. If any of my squadmates would like to teach me to swim or play any other sports, I’m down!
- I love coffee and coffee shops. I am lactose intolerant, but my favorite food is ice cream. I’m not a picky eater. I usually drink water, and I don’t remember the last time I drank soda pop.
- I have been Mexico, Canada, China, and all of the Pacific states, but I have never seen the Atlantic Ocean.
- I have an awful sense of time. I don’t like goodbyes. I have never broken a bone. I feel weirdly comfortable at hospitals, and I can lick my elbow.
So, now I’d love to know you! What’s your story, and how do you feel about campfires or coffee?
I hope you’ll join me on this adventure!
