Today was a rather
long day at school, so after lunch, I retreated to my bed for a short nap before
going to tutoring. As usual, I didn’t sleep much last night, so it felt
wonderful to snuggle up inside of my sleeping bag and drift off to the sound of
thunder and a light rain on our tin roof.

Less than an hour later, I woke up to a loud
clap of thunder and a few of my teammates running outside. I wanted to know the
cause for commotion, so I jumped out of bed and followed them out front. As a
reminder, this month we have been incredibly blessed with our accommodations. El
Shaddai is located at the very top of a mountain, so we have the most
incredible view right outside of our door. That being said, as I stepped
outside, I looked around the corner just in time to see a strike of lightening
hit just beyond the house.

A massive storm had rolled in and we were
about to be directly in the center of it! We watched as the rain moved across
the valley like a wave until the dark clouds quickly moved in and surrounded
us, stealing our view of the neighboring mountains. We went back inside for
safety purposes, and the torrential downpour began (and don’t worry, I stayed
inside to take the pictures). The wind picked up as the darkness set in and we
watched in awe as the lightening danced through the clouds, right outside of
our window. The thunder was so strong and powerful that it shook the walls and
the ground beneath our feet. Quarter-sized hail began to pound against the tin
roof as the symphony grew louder and the production more beautiful.

We gathered around the window for nearly an
hour until the storm calmed a little, but even tonight, the storm continues.
The valley is in complete darkness without electricity, but the relentless
lightening continues to fill the sky.

I’ve never witnessed a storm so incredible
as this, and my immediate thought was: “What an amazing, powerful, creative, and beautiful God we serve!”
Sometimes I wonder how we can walk through life and miss the greatness of our
God. Whether in the rumbling of the storm or the whisper of the wind, His beauty
and creation is always surrounding us. All we have to do is open our eyes and
know that He is there.

“The voice of the Lord
is over the waters; the God of glory
thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful

The voice of the Lord strikes
with flashes of
lightening. The
voice of the
Lord shakes the desert…

The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord
blesses his people with peace.”
