Last
week the youth took us to a place called “El Mirador”. It was a great day to
strengthen our relationships with one another and enjoy each other’s company.
We started the day off with a prayer and then stuffed 22.5 people into a small
van. The half person may or may not have been a baby in the driver’s lap…

When
we arrived, we began with a few different team games and then split up for
soccer and volleyball.

The
facility even included an exotic zoo, complete with peacocks, chickens, owls,
pigs, and yes, even alpaca.

“El
Mirador” actually means “The Lookout”, so of course we hiked to the top and
enjoyed the beautiful view.

At first, our time in Peru was a bit challenging because it was difficult to identify with our specific ministry. The first week we were preparing for the VBS in Huamachuco, but we still felt like we weren’t making much of a difference. Our labor was not in vein and the Lord did great things through that ministry, but we realized that maybe we were here for another reason as well. My frustration quickly turned to thankfulness when I realized that this is what life truly looks like. The World Race isn’t just about connecting with ministries around the world; it’s about learning to minister in any circumstance. When I return home, I can’t say for sure where I’ll be living or working, but I can say for sure that I will do my best to glorify the Lord each and every day. No matter where we are or what we’re doing, we are all called to spread the good news of our Savior.

Whether playing soccer, hanging out around the church, or even just running errands, I have truly enjoyed the time we have spend with the young adults here in Peru. I have found great joy in encouraging them and speaking truth in their lives, and I couldn’t be more thankful for our time together and the friendships we have developed!
