I
read Daniel Strosky’s latest
post about worry and fear. And then I was reading a story
that compared worrying to strangling. I thought I should expound upon
this.
I
know many of us in the H-Squad are freaking out a lot because we
need to have $8280 in our accounts in a month,
and many of us are currently far short of that. Even though worry
tries to wrap it’s grips around me and others (I’m sure) we need to
stay focused on God.
Worry
does strangle us. It consumes our thoughts, and can provoke actions
based on fear rather than trust and faith, and it causes us to run on
emotions rather than truth. That chokes out your relationship with
God, because instead of your spirit being fed by your relationship
with Him, it’s being fed on emotions which cause you to go to and fro
with no peace. Don’t get strangled.
So
how do we change our thinking on this?
First,
we need to identify the real issue. Daniel Strosky realized that his
worry was stemmed out of fear based on a lie. I will go so far to say
that all worry, fear and doubt are based on lies. I want to bring to
light the lie in this situation:
The
lie is that God isn’t enough and that He doesn’t provide enough for
His children.
Now,
we need to replace the lie with THE TRUTH.
Here
is just one example of God’s provision:
Exodus 12:39
“And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they had
brought out of Egypt; for it was not leavened, because they were
driven out of Egypt and could not wait, nor
had they prepared provisions for themselves.
” They, themselves, could not provide in this situation. They had to
rely and trust God. So the story continues in Exodus 16:13-15
where you see God taking care of His children who had no provisions and were in the middle of the desert. “So it was that
quails came up at evening and covered the camp, and in the morning
the dew lay all around the camp. And when the layer of dew lifted,
there, on the surface of the wilderness, was a small round substance,
as
fine as frost on the ground. So when the children of Israel saw it,
they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know
what it was.
And
Moses said to them, “This
is
the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.
“
is just one of many stories of God’s provision. But if you need more
to cling to than past stories, then cling to ONE of his many promises
found in Matthew 7,
“If
you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children,
how
much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things
to those who ask Him!” Matthew 6 also has plenty to say about God providing and not worrying.
Finally,
choose to believe the promise. Whenever the lie re-enters our lives
we need to choose to believe the TRUTH and cling to it.
I’ve
decided to get rid of the strangle of the lie in my life. I will
choose to trust God and I am holding onto the truth that GOD
IS ENOUGH AND HE DOES PROVIDE!!!
