Last week my team felt it on our hearts to spend 24 hours in prayer. On Wednesday morning at eleven we met at the beach to begin our time. We went to a place on the beach where a different team met and prayed a few days prior. We broke off on the rocks and began to pray on our own and about an hour later came together for corporate prayer. It was raining and it was obvious that our team was sucked of joy for some reason. We were trying to pump each other up and it just wasn’t working.
Chris spoke up and said that he was feeling that the beach wasn’t our place. After praying as a group we felt the Lord leading us to a park in the middle of town. Immediately after our arrival to the park the rain cleared, the sunshine beamed, and our joy was restored! Listening and responding in obedience really became a theme of those 24 hours. Let me just tell you a little bit about this CRAZY time!
So the day was pretty normal. We had cool conversations and interceded for each other when we weren’t speaking to people. We worshipped in the middle of the park and dove into Scripture. Then night came and with it brought fire twirlers. Yes, true story, fire twirlers. Kayla, Clancy, and the others taught me how to twirl fire myself and then hung out with us throughout the night. A few hours later we felt like dancing for the Lord was in order so we turned on our Christian rap and made something happen! How cool is it that Jesus works in venues like dancing and fire twirling?? During our dance party two guys showed up and joined us. Later on that night we found out that about an hour before they came they received news that their best friend had committed suicide and they were off to another club to stir up trouble when they ran into us. They ended up staying and talking until about 4:30 that morning. They couldn’t believe that people would actually sit and listen. We had many other sweet conversations throughout that night and morning. Who knew that a sleepless night could yield such blessings?! I’m learning so much about how the Lord blesses obedience. I’m also learning the significance in acting quickly in that obedience. In Byron Bay in particular there are so many times when the Lord says, “Go speak to that person.” Obeying quickly is necessary or you typically miss the opportunity. We would have missed out on so much if we hadn’t acted in obedience in even switching locations. Like fire twirling. 🙂
(don’t mind the guy in the background.. i have the real skills, let’s be honest.)
