So every year in a town near where I went to college in a
place called Holland, Michigan they have the Tulip Time festival.
Tulip Time is an amazing beautiful experience complete with pretty much every
color tulip you could ever want, some Dutch dancing, music, and just all kinds
of fun things. I loved going to Tulip Time with friends when I was still in
school, it was kind of a celebration of the end of the school year. This year I
don’t get to go to Tulip Time in Holland, but
instead got to experience it here in Pitesti!!

Pitesti is apparently Tulip City in Romania!
This weekend is the Tulip Festival. Tonight we went out on the town to see what
all the excitement was about. Besides there being tulips everywhere we also got
to see some school children performing traditional Romanian dances and songs,
some Native American musicians performing songs and dances in the square, and
got to celebrate my teammate Emily’s birthday! We got to maybe 1/3 of the
festival so we will be going back to see what other gems we can find tomorrow.
I heard a rumor of some sort of concert in this area that reminds me of Rosa Parks Circle
in downtown Grand Rapids,
so I don’t know. We will find out!

The city has been bustling and lighter the last few days.
The sun has been shining; people are enjoying the newness that comes with
Spring; and it has been enjoyable to wander the city for the last few days,
basking in the excitement. The Tulip Festival is just the beginning of
something great for this city. As it gets warmer and people begin to go outside
more and more the anticipation for community and for company continues to grow.

It feels like a little bit of home is here this weekend as I
experience the Tulip Festival. In the midst of this crazy state of my heart,
once again Romania
just feels like home.
