I used to think I wanted to be a teacher, but that changed. Since my mind changed I have never had the desire to teach in my whole life. Actually, the thought seemed rather repulsive. This month we are teaching English. It is both easier and harder than I thought. Sometimes we have to explain what certain words mean. Words that I have known since before I could speak, but have no idea how to explain them… words like things. We have had to explain why glasses [like the kind that go on your face] and jeans are plural with an s at the end, but they are only one item. It is confusing even to me sometimes. But, being an English teacher is pretty cool.
For example:
Last weekend we went to English Camp in Pai, Thailand. English Camp meant going three hours away to Pai, doing two mixer games to get to know each others names, then having a scavenger hunt through the city. After the scavenger hunt we were free for the rest of the evening. The next day we got up and went to a beautiful coffee shop called “Coffee In Love”, then to a Chinese market, then we came back to Chiang Mai in the late afternoon. It was a beautiful and fun weekend.
We [Katie and I] also got invited to dinner with our students from one of our English classes we teach at Wongen. We almost got caught in a torrential downpour with them [on mopeds], but we made it under an overhang just in time. We went to dinner with them and just had a really good time. BONUS: we ate really REALLY good Thai food for dinner.
Teaching English isn’t horrible, but I don’t think it will ever be my profession.
Here are some pictures from Pai and from dinner with our students. Enjoy
Much love,
