So since I have gotten home from training camp I haven’t really
had internet access. The thing about not having internet that has bugged me the
most is the fact that I haven’t been able to blog. I have been processing
everything that happened at camp and to try and put it into words is something
that is nearly impossible. The last post I made was from training camp. We were
given just a few minutes in an “internet café” situation. Trying to process
camp without my D squad has been hard though. We are such a family. I know that
I have a D squad shaped hole in my heart. Was it possible that I became family
with 40 other people in just a few short days? Absolutely.
God did some absolutely ridiculous things at camp.
So many things that would have made so many people I know
SUUUUPER uncomfortable.
So many things that I didn’t even know were possible.
Things that I thought were a bit weird and strange… until
they happened to me.
For most of us we have a tendency to put God in this lovely
little box. We say that we aren’t… but who are we really kidding? Up until two
weeks ago I would have told you this box was non existent. I would have pointed
out other people who had God in a box, but my name surely would not have been
on that list. But guess what… at training camp, GOD EXPLODED MY BOX.
I am not talking about him opening the lid and stepping out
all nicely and waving hello from across the room.
I am talking about 1500 sticks of dynamite, a couple of hand
grenades, fourth of July fireworks, cannons, sizzle in your mouth like 25 bags
of pop rocks kind of exploding my box.
Literally, my “God box” shattered into about a zillion and a
half pieces in the back woods of Georgia.
I could not be happier about that though.
The book of Acts makes so much more sense to me now.
I want to leave you with a little story that made Jimmy
McCarty say “we didn’t really mean for you to start now!! This was just
supposed to be practice!” Well the D Squad doesn’t mess around. So one day at
camp we got our teams. I am on a team with 6 other wonderful women. Right after
we get our teams we are told that we will be leaving to go make a memory, have
dinner, and kind of put into practice what we had been talking about all week
at camp. We got excited and headed out. As we were about to get on the
expressway my We all saw a guy who was packing up his “home” of a tent on the
side of the road right by the expressway. Immediately my team leader (who is an
amazing lady) said “We need to go talk to that guy.” REALLY? We aren’t even 4
miles away from camp. We were headed somewhere else. My head kept coming up
with excuses and I started getting nervous that we were really going to do it.
We took a second to pray and decided that yep, we were turning around to go
talk to him. He was now walking. We made a decision to pull into the Wendy’s
parking lot and I am pretty sure someone prayed that God would bring him to Wendy’s.
A few short minutes later there he was, on the sidewalk right behind our car
just setting his stuff down like he was waiting for something. He was waiting
for us. Since we didn’t want to bombard him with seven girls two of us went out
at first, the other five staying in the car to intercede. Then another one of
us went out a few minutes later. After a few more minutes she waves all of us
out. Not even two seconds after we get to him we were praying for this man. He
had terrible eye sight, had just gotten out of the hospital, and we could see
he was just broken. So we start praying mostly for his vision to be restored.
We have much power and boldness on my team. Finally we close up, get him some
food, and say our goodbyes. As we are pulling out we rolled down the windows to
say one last goodbye and he says “GOD IS MAKING ME SEE!” So we stop the car and
my team leader goes to see if he is serious. He previously couldn’t read the
letters and numbers on a license plate with how bad his vision was, he said
that he can read them now. So my team leader pulls out her cell phone to see if
he can read the tiny letters of the brand. She holds it far enough away that
with bad sight he wouldn’t be able to see it and he reads it “SAMSUNG.” We pull
away in awe of what just happened.
WAIT WHAT?! Is this real life? I expected to do this when we
got out of the country but you mean we started this Holy Spirit party now
before camp is even over?? The “H” work that makes people uncomfortable and
skeptical. HEALING. Yep. That happened.
God exploded my box.
