It took us three days to get back to Denver from training camp. The long drive was needed, needed to process the emotions, feelings and information from the previous 9 days.
To mix things up a bit we decided to take a different route back, traveling through Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. We also managed to gain a fourth member for the first day and a half of our journey,
Sean definitely made the ride more interesting and we needed it because for the most part, what we saw outside of the window was pretty boring.
By the time we finally rolled into Denver we were all so exhausted (and I was sick…again), we just wanted to crawl in our beds and sleep for a week, and I still had to fly home!
Interesting moments on our drive back?
-Stopping at Jacks, a fast food restaurant in Alabama and watching “Cops” while the others ate fried chicken and cheese fries. The place just felt…grimy.
-Driving through the tornado affected area in Alabama. It was so heartbreaking, I wanted to get out and do something.
-We stopped to eat alot. We were always hungry but our stomachs had gotten so small at camp that we couldn’t eat a lot at a time.
-Getting completely lost in Little Rock. We still don’t know what happened to I-40.
-Oklahoma is SOOOOOOO boring. And my car-mates wouldn’t let me sing songs from the musical.
-We pulled off the freeway to get gas in Oklahoma and the town was completely deserted. It was like some creepy post apocalyptic movie.
-Seeing a sign for a giant steak at an Amarillo restaurant all the way in Arkansas.
-North Texas is cliche. Utterly flat and the power-lines go on forever.
-Meeting up with good friends from my days in Thailand in Amarillo and them treating us to dinner, which was very kind 🙂
-Driving through NE New Mexico which is awesome and dotted with extinct black volcanoes. I want to go back some day.
Oh Texas.
Check out the video of our way back! We were definitely getting tired by the end 😉
