I feel like my life is one big bargain hunt these days. Trying to find the best price on a backpack, sleeping pad, socks! And travel is the same way. When I learned that I would cost me more than $1000 to fly from Seattle to Chattanooga for training camp I had a minor panic attack. For the first time I hated Seattle…and Memorial Day. At the same time the answer to my conundrum popped up in a facebook message. So, on May 18 I boarded a plane to Denver where I met two amazing chicks/squadmates and the next day we began our cross country adventure, traveling through Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and North Carolina (because we could) before finally ending up at training camp in Tennessee!
Although the days of driving were long and tiring, I wouldn’t have traded a minute of it, well, maybe a minute of it but you get what I mean. Here’s some of the awesome memories I’m talking about,
-Sitting in a Kansas Subway when my very first REAL emergency broadcast system announcement came on. In WA, when we have earthquakes the power goes out rendering the EBS useless, but in Kansas for Tornadoes it really works!
-Driving down the freeway when suddenly the load in the truck in front of us came loose and jugs of water started flying at us, creating an exhilarating game of dodge ’em
-Going to a graduation party for a girl I’ve never met in a state I’ve never been to
-Dancing under the St. Louis Arch.
-Getting utterly lost in Kentucky
-Making an excellent first impression on a KY waitress, I mean who doesn’t order a pizza and baked potato for dinner?
-Getting attacked by fireflies, lightening bugs are much friendlier.
-And the feeling of utter joy and excitement that bubbled up as we made the final turn into training camp. This is happening, it’s really happening!
Oh, and in case you were wondering, this whole adventure came out to less than $300! God provides, even in the strange ways!
So check out our adventure! Oh, I apologize for the shakiness in the video, I’ve learned I need to hold my camera with two hands.
