First of all I want to say Thank You. Thank you to everyone who donated and supported me through this. Thank you to those I know, those I don’t and those who wanted to remain anonymous. Because of you I now only have $734 left to raise to stay on the race and an entire Gypsy village of children now has warm socks!
The “Support For Socks” challenge wrapped up last friday, so as we entered our last week of ministry here in Romania my team knew we had to get out and purchase some socks. We used our off day on Tuesday to go into the city and visit Real, Romanias equivalent of Walmart. 100 Ley later we walked out with bags full of socks for the kids.
Wednesdays are the ministry day where we visit a large Gypsy village to pray for the families and play with the kids. We usually stop before we enter the village so that we can pray for God’s hand in our ministry that day. Yesterday we stopped to pray, and soon after we started we heard little voices yelling “Hello!” And we looked up to see a group of kids running towards us. They ran up, grabbed our hands and waiting patiently for us to finish praying. Then all together we made our way to the first house.
The kids all followed us inside the house when we went to give the family clothes and pray for them. When we walked back outside I knew I couldn’t wait any longer to pass out socks to these kids. As I pulled the socks out of my backpack the kids were at first confused, but confusion quickly turned into excitement. Socks!
As we walked farther into the village children started appearing out of the word-work. It didn’t take long before we were surrounded by a crowd, anxious to get this special treat from the Americans.
It took some work to make sure each kid got a pair amidst the chaos, but I think we managed pretty well.
So once again, Thank You. Thank you for being willing to help these kids stay warm this winter. We still have a few more socks to pass out tomorrow in the village I wrote about in the original blog. God is doing great work here and this is just a start!
I still need to raise $735, and I need to do this by January 1. We leave for Africa on December 12, and I’ve been told we won’t have internet, so I would love to be fully funded before we leave. Not much more to go!
