Jesus Love is a Bubblin’ Over, somehow it’s a VBS song I’ve gone my whole life without knowing… that is until now. On our very first day of ministry at the Formosa Primary School in the New Horizons Township here in Plettenberg bay we taught it to the kids, and they’ve not stopped singing it ever since.
Our ministry for the month was pretty simple. Every week day a bus would come pick us up at our farm about 15 minutes outside of town and it would bring us to the school for the afternoon. Everyday, when our van pulled up two dozen kids would be waiting at the gate of the school for us and soon 50 more would find there way over.
Our ministry was originally meant to be a soccer camp, but after not having any soccer balls the first couple days we found the kids interest in soccer had actually waned. They just wanted to play games or be held by us.
So, every afternoon for two weeks we gathered the kids together, we would do relay races, play duck duck goose, birdy on a perch and all manner of other games.
We would also bring the Word to the kids everyday. We taught them how to pray, and then we would teach them a bible story, usually through a skit and of course we would sing songs. It was a total blast, as well as total chaos everyday!
Jesus love really was bubblin’ over this month. It was so amazing to see his love shine through my team/squad mates as well as the children. Even though our time with the kids was pretty short, I knowing we left a lasting impact on them, and that is truly amazing.
