Hello!
We are currently in San Juan, Dominican Republic. Yesterday was travel day from Santo Domingo to San Juan. It was about a 4 hour bus ride here. Because our squad is so large we split up our locations for this month. Part of the squad is in Haiti, and the other part is here in the DR. Next month, we will all swap. We have about 45 of us all living in one house (about 7 teams) and we will split up during the days with our teams to do ministry. It’s pretty much one huge party! My team will be working in the agriculture area in the slums. Our first day is Monday, so pray it all goes well!
Couple Highlights thus far:
-In Santo Domingo, we had a project assignment to make a video “the kingdom is like… (I’ll post the video later) and had several good encounters with the locals as we were working on it. The kids are instantly your best friends and give you hugs after 5 minutes of hanging out with them. We met a guy named Thomas who we had the chance to talk to and share about what we are doing, which led to a good conversation about Jesus/the Gospel/religion/the church. Cool.
-We went to the beach for adventure day on Thursday. 1. It was pretty. 2. It was nice to sit and relax. But 3!! One of the girls from my team met a lady working on the beach name AnnaMaria who was day 5 of being clean from drugs and really got to talk to her and pour into her. She really wanted someone to pray with her in her own language, so one of the girls from our squad who speaks Spanish went over and was able to pray with her. Such a celebration and encouragement for AnnaMaria in her journey.
– Cold showers. They feel so good in this heat and humidity!
That’s all for now! More to come once we really get going in our work.
