We successfully made it to our ministry location in Serbia after traveling for 2 days, a distance which should have taken about 5 hours by car. We left late at night on Monday, March 6 and took the midnight train from Arad to Timisoara in Romania. Then we had a layover in Timisoara from 12:30am until 6:00am and we were stranded at a sketchy train station. We were traveling with 3 teams of people and we didn’t feel comfortable at the train station, so we walked around and found a gas station that was open 24-hours and they let us all stay there overnight in their small café area. That’s right, we slept on the floor of a gas station.
We finally arrived at our ministry location about 6pm that day. We are in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia. It is an interesting city that we are told is famous for tourism of it’s hot springs.
Our ministry for the month is working with a local church. We are working with Pastor Radovon and helping his church in any way that we can. We have been clearing the field behind the church so that grass can grow in the spring and clearing the ditches surrounding the property. We have also hung curtains in the newly renovated apartment that we are staying in. I think we will be doing small maintenance projects like these for the month, although we have not heard a definite list of projects yet.
I’m looking forward to this month. I think we can do a lot of things for the church and it seems like there is a lot of opportunity to be in local cafes and form relationships with people so that we can tell them about what God has done in our lives.
We are still in the beginning stages of ministry for the month where we are finding out what we can do for the church and the best ways that we can be involved. Our biggest challenge so far is that our apartment does not have heat, so we have been living in a house that is about 40-45 degrees and we are trying to stay warm. I don’t see a possibility of getting a heater for our home, so please pray with us for a heat wave in Serbia!
