At the beginning of last month, I felt the need to be more “interruptible.” I prayed that the Lord would open my eyes to the people in front of me, who needed help or a smile, and asked that He would help me set aside my “precious time” to be an encouragement.

One night, my team had just finished debriefing the day when our host knocked on our bedroom door and asked us to come outside. Some neighbors had heard us singing under our little pavilion the previous nights and had heard one of the E2E students that we were working with singing that night, so they decided to yell over our gate to see what was going on.

It was 11 pm, we were ready for bed, and quite honestly, none of us wanted to go outside to meet our neighbors. But we did.

We sat around in a circle with them for the next two hours singing old pop songs and getting to know them.

(Side note: I also started a new habit of praying with one of my teammates every night for 20-30 minutes before we went to bed. We pray about all the things, so if you are desiring to be lifted up, let me know! But the cool part is, we were hanging out with our new friends in the exact location that we had been covering in prayer.)

Around 1 AM, as they were leaving, one of the guys shook our hands and said “I find so much peace for my soul here. Thank you for this night.”

WOW.

He is good.

The Lord gave us an opportunity to be interrupted in our own home. This is just one of the beautiful stories that He gave us last month. But many of these stories ended in lengthy coffee dates and new friendships.

I am truly grateful for the many lessons that the Lord taught me in the beautiful country of Romania.
