This is a story all about how my life got twist-turned upside down…

If you asked me 6 months ago if I would live on a farm for a month, I’d probably say no. If you asked me to live on a farm for 3 months?? I’d say you’re crazy. Luckily, God has a funny sense of humor and I have a generally good “go with the flow” mentality. When I signed up for the World Race I imagined myself visiting orphanages, or sharing the gospel, or painting school buildings. I did not imagine myself spreading chicken poop fertilizer along rows and rows of peppers. Or de-weeding hundreds of baby coffee plants. And yet- that’s what this month in Panama looks like.

For those of you who know me, you know back home I pretty much *always* have my nails manicured and painted. So imagine my surprise at how much I have enjoyed getting my hands dirty and farming. I’m slowly getting used to constantly having dirt under my nails, and wearing the same shirt 3 days in a row because “it’ll just get dirty again anyway”.

This month we are learning every step of harvesting coffee. From planting the baby coffee plant, to fertilizing the bigger plants, to picking the coffee beans, de shelling them, drying, roasting, grinding, and packaging them. I’m slowly learning to enjoy the taste of coffee. And I’m finally at a point of not asking God “please not another farm next month”. At this point, if He hilariously sent me to 11 farms this year, I think I’ll survive 😉
