So the other day I was walking around with some of my friends in Prishtina, Kosovo and I found 5 euros on the ground. Lucky day. I first thought yay, I can keep this to pay for the dinner I was on my way to get. Then I remembered how this weeks journey marker was on generosity, so then I decided to pray about what God wants to do with this 5 euro.

… 3 days later (today, just an hour ago actually…) I’m walking around in Macedonia for my adventure day with some friends. Greg (my teammate obsessed with dogs) stopped to pet a dog. Meanwhile, a homeless middle aged man comes up to Greg and starts chatting. At first I thought the man was upset with Greg, but really from what I could hear he was asking for money. This is something that actually happens all the time so I wasn’t that surprised. Then he says that he needs exactly 5.80 euros to get back to the Serbian border to his family. Greg then asks if we could pray for the man so we all gathered round and prayed. I’m praying silently and asking God if I should give him the 5 euro because I remember seeing that I had that in my wallet (completely forgetting that it was the same one I found and prayed over 3 days prior). So we finish up praying, and even though I didn’t feel a strong no or yes I decided to give him 5 euro anyways. He was SO happy. He gave me like 4 hugs and was just so sweet and kind and super grateful. He then explains that he is a refugee from Syria and was able to escape with his family by selling his house and making a deal with someone to get them out. He and his family had to walk a ridiculous amount of miles and with that he had a ton of sores and blisters and scrapes on his feet. Also some how once he and his family got to the refugee camp in Serbia he got separated from them and was now here in Macedonia, it has been 2 months since he has seen his family. You could just tell how much he loves his family and just so desperately wants to get back to them and make sure they are okay. He said he’s not even sure if they are alive. From what I could tell he has 2 daughters in their later 20’s and a beautiful wife. He said I reminded him of his youngest daughter, he said “she is just as sweet and kind as you.” He expressed that no one would give him the time of day or even listen to him. So then I asked if we could pray for his feet and just his family again. He then shares how he is a Christian and believes Jesus is Lord. WOW GOD. So then we prayed, hugged, and said our goodbyes and God bless you’s. As we were walking away Alyssa (my other teammate, Greg’s wife) reminded me about the 5 euros I found and prayed over because they were the ones with me the other day. I’m just in complete awe and the fact that the Lord would use this to connect our paths and bring glory to His name is just amazing. I’m so thankful to have met this man and had the opportunity to pray over him. Just thank you God!

Please join me in praying over Suleiman, his family, the refugee camps all over the world (there are SO many), and his country. I am specifically praying this over Suleiman and his family:

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” – Psalm 73:26 and Psalm 23:2–3, “He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.”

Keep shining,

Sunny ??
