Before coming to Nepal I asked God to give me his eyes and to break my heart for what breaks his. He answered that prayer already and we have only had a week of ministry here.
Slums are something I have seen a lot of just on different trips and driving around different countries but I have never actually touched my feet down to the ground that people live on. I have never walked into the village that they have made and prayed for people living in complete poverty, talked to them, or help feed people that live there. Wednesday that all changed.
Our ministry host puts on school for kids that live in poverty so they can get some form of education. It is nothing fancy, they are kind of thrown into one class, but they are getting educated. They are learning and they are given a chance. The school times are not what you imagine. They have two different school times, 7-10 am and 4-6 pm. The reasoning behind this is because if they had school from 8-3 pm no one would show up. These kids have to go into the city and beg for food and money during that time. Say what?!?
Due to this relationship they have built we were able to go in with a translator and pray over back pains, blindness, sores, and hand out a small snack to everyone we talked to. We also were able to see a church that they built with bamboo and tarps and just pray blessings over this place of worship.
Wednesday was difficult but it was such a good day spent just talking to the Lord, covering people in prayer walking where people walk. Seeing what people see. Smelling what people smell. I was talking to a couple friends and we were wondering if you just get use to it. Ya know? Living next to a river full of trash and sewage. Does the smell ever go away? At what point do you stop dreaming of a better life? At what point do you accept, this is the best it will get? What happens during the rainy/monsoon season when that river they live next to floods?
I think the hardest part is most of these people put their hope in gods that don’t exists!
Praying that they find the love of Jesus put their hope in him!
There is such power in prayer!
We will be working with women who have come out of the sex trade industry early this week and then trekking into the mountains for some village ministry later in the week for about 10 days please be praying for my team as we step out of comfort zones and build relationships.
Thanks for reading!
Talk to you all soon,
Alyssa
