My birthday was earlier this month and I was thinking, next year my birthday rolls around I will be celebrating in another country! How crazy is that?!? I am so excited! It is going to be so amazing! It will most definitely be different, in the best possible way. I wonder what country I will be in. How do they celebrate birthdays?
Although I am a little stressed out by the number on my fundraising page, I am trying my best to be present in everything this year and grow as much as I can before I leave for the Race.
God has put amazing people in my life here in Colorado to help me grow in my relationship with Him and prepare my heart for leaving and I need to take advantage of that!
I am currently reading this book Rooted by Banning Liebscher. It is so good! I cannot get enough! It is about developing your root system: You were born to make an impact in this world and you know it. You feel it deep down in your bones. Apathy is your nemesis and your hunger to change the world keeps you up at night. But no matter how deep this hunger growls, we can only make a meaningful impact if we are rooted in Jesus. And here’s the thing:
God is not interested in developing your vision first.
He is interested in developing you.
In Rooted, Banning Liebscher takes us to the life of David to show how God expands our root system in the hidden places before leading us to where we all desire to go, the visible world. It was in a field of prayerful devotion, a season of serving, and a cave of community that God prepared David for his crown, the same way God prepares us. Take a look at your own life. Are you embracing God’s process, the sometimes painstaking and maddening process? When we can release ourselves to God we will find that we can thrive while He develops us, rather than succumb to discouragement.
Whatever your age or season of life, it takes immense courage to slow down enough to let God grow a root system in your life so that you can bear fruit that remains. You are where you are because God has planted you there. Discover what it looks like to embrace His process so you can do what He has called you to, change the world.
Amazing right?! It has been the prefect book for me to read as I am preparing to leave for 11 months.
Here are some quotes from the book that really stuck out to me! p.s. I am only on chapter 3.
“Gods plan for your life is not conservative. He’s not satisfied with minimal results.” So every time you don’t think you are qualified to do something God has called you to do, think again! He loves us so much and wants big things for us!
“Anybody can start a race! The real question is how strong we will be when we finish.” I was a tad convicted by this because of how many things I have started and not finished. I use to see everything through and now I have let things slide a little bit. Not anymore! I am finishing the race, and I am finishing strong!
“God is intent on establishing a root system in our life, and we don’t always recognize that fact. Because we don’t feel passionate about what we are doing, or because it’s harder than we thought, or because it’s boring or slow, we think we should be somewhere else. But that’s not how God works.” Be open to where you are at currently. Is there something that you are not seeing? Is there a place God is trying to use or grow you in your current situation?
Don’t try and get ahead of God, allow Him to grow your roots.
If you are looking for a good book, I recommend this one!
