This month I’ve found much joy in the simple things. Life is a bit slower than I’m used to here. My team and I live in a cute and tiny village near the coast of Ghana, where we work as teachers in a school and preach and lead worship at church services at night. At home, I was very much so a workaholic and always super busy. I think it’s because I wanted to make sure that I was “making something of myself.” It’s been beautiful to discover what life looks like when I don’t think so much of myself and the things I need to do, but instead the people around me and us living joyfully together. God is so good and too many times we make life too complicated.
I’ve only been in Ghana for a little over a week, but I’ve already been thankful for so many things:
-the ice cream bike that visits us daily (we give him a lot of business)
-how my teammate, Kim, sings and plays worship with her guitar in the evening outside
-hand washing my clothes (it’s mindless, but I’m still getting something done. It’s therapeutic and wonderful)
-the couple that we’re staying with, they speak of God’s goodness so much that you can’t help but be happy around them
-my first grade class (they call me Auntie Lyssa and I find that super cute)
-my team, who’s loved me so well and is teaching me how to love others better
-how much Ghanians smile, which is a lot
-I’ve held multiple kittens here
-there’s a nice breeze beginning in the evening and lasts through the night
-that my family and friends at home support and encourage me so much
-how quiet and peaceful our village is
-pineapples
God is so good, too good. It has been so wonderful just to rest in how good God is and how much He has given me. There’s much more to be thankful for than to worry about. Let yourself rest in God’s goodness, it’s freeing….. and it’s free!!
All the love,
Auntie Lyssa
