How does one start these "about me" topics anyway? I suppose with a name…
My name is Alyssa Reilly, I'm 22 and I am the second oldest of four girls. I was born in New Hampshire but currently live in the most beautiful state in the union, Colorado! It's ok to be jealous.
I am one of those people with lots of different interests instead of one strong one. I currently teach worship dance and ballet for Celebration Ministry of Arts and have for 5 years. I started ballet and worship dance when I was 7 and still love it. I'm also an EMT and used that to work in an Operating Room for a bit, currently I do in-home elder care. I am also going to school for Criminal Justice at the local community college.
My christian walk began at the age of four when my Daddy read me a christian version of the three little pigs in our living room. Even at the age, I very much meant my decision and loved Jesus very much. I was baptized four years later at the age of 8. My wonderful Mother home schooled all four of her girls almost all the way through high school, we took one year off. My parents trained me to pursue God and follow his commands from a young age and I am so grateful.
I first became passionate about missions when I was nine years old. I read the book "Jesus Freak" and was totally impacted by it. I told God that I would be willing to go wherever he wanted me to and be willing to give up my life for him. I have recently been learning about giving up my daily life for him, submitting the little things to him as well as the big things. I went to Kenya with AIM's Real Life program in the fall of 2009 and loved it! I learned so much and I fell in love with Africa. I am so excited to be going back!
My Dad is a retired Fire Battalion Chief so I grew up running around the fire station. He currently works for a private fire investigation company. My mom is a nurse and I am so proud of her hard work in this field. I love my sisters a crazy amount and leaving them will be one of the harder things about the Race.
Things I love: Jesus, my family, my friends, dancing, the Denver Broncos, football in general, curry, snowboarding, hiking, backpacking, horses, Africa, Disney World, grand allegro and cooking.
Favorite season: fall! It has my birthday, football, the best weather, baseball playoffs and comfort food at its best!
Favorite book: The Bible and if that doesn't count, the Mark of the Lion trilogy by Francine Rivers.
Favorite movie: I don't think I have one but the Bourne series, Inception, The Kingdom and Slumdog Millionaire are four of my favs.
Favorite food: Clam chowder!
Favorite drink: Peppermint soy latte from Starbucks.
Things I dislike: Snakes, frozen peas, lazy people, slow drivers, the Oakland Raiders, yip yip dogs, being out of control of a situation (I'm working on this one), fouette turns, that dropping feeling in your stomach… I hate it.
At the end of my life, I want people to say that I lived my life for God to the absolute fullest and loved as he loved. That is what I am pursing on the Race, to look like Jesus and love as He loved. Thanks for reading my blog and following me on this journey!
