When I first started thinking about the going on the World Race, I would be lying if I said that the money didn’t hold me back, because it did. I have known for over three years that I would go, I just wasn’t sure when. When I moved to Virginia to teach, I began to think about it more seriously and decided that it would be possible for me to go if I put myself on a 5 year plan for saving all the money that I would need myself because I do not like asking for help. Fast forward about a year and I had no money saved due to a variety of expenses and I decided that the World Race was simply a dream that God did not necessarily want me to pursue. But it was and I am here now. Last February when God told me that I would be leaving this year, I saved money and crunched numbers and realized that there was no way I would be able to do it on my own and I would have to ask. God was asking me to take a leap of faith and trust Him, a concept that is still difficult for me if I am being honest. God promised that He would provide the funds and this is a promise that He reminds me of daily especially when I get discouraged and think that He won’t. I would be lying if I said that I still don’t come up with my plan B for the money. But no matter how I rearrange my personal budget, it never works out. God is saying you need to let go of your independence, be dependent on me and ask people for help and that is oh so hard for independent Alyssa.
I am so overwhelmed by God’s goodness and His provision so far. I am excited to announce that I have met my first financial deadline of $3500 (I have $3,682 in my account) which is due by May 3rd! I wouldn’t be to this point without your support so THANK YOU! I now have $12,570 to go until I am fully funded. It would be easy for me to look at this number and think about how impossible it would be to get there. On my own, it is impossible. There is no way that I can do this alone. When I break down the numbers, I realize that if 100 people would decide to be $10 monthly supporters of this mission for the next year (from now until December), I would be fully funded. That means that if 50 people would provide $20 monthly support, I would also be fully funded. When I look at the amount like this, it doesn’t feel as daunting.
The following are the deadlines for the amounts that I have to have in my account prior to and during the trip to leave/stay on the World Race. While these are my deadlines, I am boldly praying that I would be fully funded by the time I leave the first week of July.
$7500 – Due by 6/17/14 – Checks must be mailed prior to Friday, June 6th in order for them to process in time to meet the deadline date. Online donations
$11,000 – Due 10/1/2014 (End of 3 months on the field)
$16,252 – Total Due 1/1/2015 (End of 6 months on the field)
My prayer is that you would prayerfully consider financially supporting my time on the mission field and that you would join me in praying for my finances, my squad and for our preparations over the next 6 months.
If you would like to be a financial supporter of my journey, read below for more information on how to do so. If you did not receive a support letter in the mail and would like one, please send me your address and I will send one out with the few that I have left to mail out.
