Once a _______ always a _______.

Take a moment, fill it in.

I’m sure you have thought this about someone at some point in your life, whether that someone is you, or someone else.

You saw them as who they were, what they have done in the past, and you looked at it as evidence for what the future will look like.

News flash: Past is not an indicator of future, no matter how much we think it does.

It doesn’t matter what you are filling in:
– cheater
– liar
– bully
– murderer
– prostitute
– manipulator
– thief

And so many more.

I don’t know if there is anything further from the truth. There is nothing that Jesus can’t overcome. There is no title he can’t remove. No matter how long something has been your title, there is hope, and that hope has a name- Jesus!

The gospel means hope for a better tomorrow. A new life. Let me repeat that, a new LIFE.

This doesn’t just mean your sin is covered and paid for, it means that and more. It means it is covered and paid for, you are forgiven, and set free! You are no longer bound to the things that were holding you back from walking in the love that was literally poured out for you.

A life no longer defined but what you did, how much money you made, how nice you were, how mean you were, One that is free from the title you once bore.

Free to walk in abundance and no shame.

The only title that can truthfully fill in these blanks is “Once a child of God always a child of God.”

He calls you His! You are walking in an abundant life as an adopted son or daughter.

You are free from all titles except for this one- this is the new badge you have the privilege to carry. Beauty. Redemption. Freedom.

You are not what you do. You are not your mistakes or the sum of them. You are a child, a child made with purpose. A child made to reflect the glory and majesty of the creator.

Whatever or whoever you think you are let that fall away for a minute, and instead fill this in:

My name is _______ and I am a child of God, nothing I can do, have done, or will do, can change this, His grace and love will always run deeper and further.
