When I hear the words witch doctors I think of voodoo and potions. I think of crazy people on cartoons I used to watch. My preconceived notions have been nothing like what I have encountered.

Walking in the villages the other day a woman approached us. She seemed very nice, normal. Our translator told us she was a witch doctor and that she needed prayer. We sat and spoke with her and prayed for her. But I was confused. This seemed like a completely normal woman. How was she a witch doctor? After we left we asked our translator many questions. Apparently, this woman sells herbs. She sells them and people believe, depending on my herb they buy, different things will happen. One for good business, another for health.

This baffles me. How can an herb help someone’s business? Some people live like this. They put their hope in the things of this world. To me this only makes what we are doing more important. People need to hear the truth. That is why we keep pressing on. I met another woman with tb last month. She saw us walking and she came to ask us for prayer. The following Sunday, at church, this woman stood up and told the congregation that witch doctors could not help her, she had tried that. But, Jesus healed her through prayer. Amen! Time for month eight!
