Twin beds, sleeping pads, on buses, on the floor, bunk beds, couches, futon mattresses, warehouses, hostels, houses, or in the grass, this month my team has been sleeping around.
It has been our task this month to find new partners for future world racers. God has led us to so many amazing people, ministries and opportunities.
One of the several awesome people we met was Kurt. Kurt’s ministry is called Sus Hijos. They do so much here in El Salvador. They feed the hungry, help in orphanages and schools, build houses, and house teens so they can finish school.
A few of my teammates and I had the chance to go and stay a few days at one of their ministry sites. We stayed at the girls home, it is in a warehouse and the first floor serves as a staging center for the houses they build. The second floor has been converted into bedrooms, bathrooms and a loving room, while the third floor serves as a kitchen and office.
It was such a joy to go stay with the girls. We got to share meals with them, watch a telenovela with them, and talk with them about the love of Christ. While we were there we also were able to go to an orphanage and snuggle some babies. But, for me, the most impactful thing we were a part of was an English class.
During the class a voluenteer, Judy, wrote on the board, “Is God Jesus?” All but one girl immediately called out, “Yes!” The girl had many questions about God being the Father and the Son. She also wanted to know how He could be God in heaven and Jesus on earth at the same time. Judy led them through scripture to help answer their questions and I was just awestruck at their curiosity, thoughtfulness, and sincerity. It was so beautiful to watch each one of these girls to dig into who God is, was, and always will be.
