My teammates and I have started to relive every moment we spent in the hospital with our VERY ill teammate, Jake. Although this happened several months ago in Thailand, the detailed memories have not left our minds. We now even laugh about it! The following blog posts will be given to you in a series and trust me, you DON'T want to miss it! Bethany, Jake, and myself have written out and relived every detail that we can remember. Come along with us on this journey as we take you through the moments that created tears, pain, laughter, and memories to last a lifetime!
WARNING: This blog post will feature stories that may not be suitable for children, immature audiences, or those who may be offended by stories detailing possibly explicit situations, namely excrement and vomiting.

Jake – Forward
The day I died…
Haha just kidding folks. But let’s be honest for a second there were times that I thought I was going to, or was coming close to it or so it seemed.
My team Uniquely Knit and I now look back on this experience and laugh.
During it though, yes, it sucked. Most of the time was filled with pain, exhaustion, and frustration. There were light moments, but they were few and far between. Now, however, we can only thank God for being the great physician. I say that doubly as, honestly, I still don’t really know how I was healed. Enjoy.

Jake – Morning Sickness
Saturday, the nineteenth of October, 2013. Mae Sot,Thailand. The day after going into Myanmar, we were supposed to leave by songthaew for Mae Sariang. We woke up extra early, I think around 5am, to go to the Lucky Tea to have a chickpea and nan breakfast one last time in Mae Sot. However, I woke up with severe cramping in my abdomen. I hadn’t had a bowel movement in about five days, so I knew I was constipated, and I had drank next to no water in the sweltering heat for the past week. I remember squatting, curled in a ball in front of the building we lodged at. My teammates, noticing something was obviously wrong, asked me what was up, and I spilled the beans about the whole situation. Alysa gave me a grapefruit extract pill, which quickly made me vomit. We woke up our contact, and had him take me to Mae Sot – Ram General Hospital.
Alysa
I was packed, ready to go get the bikes out that were our form of transportation while we were in Mae Sot. But, as I was pulling out the first bike, I noticed Jake hunched over, pale, and tired; it looked like he hadn’t slept all night. Once he told me that he was constipated I went and got him a grapefruit seed pill that is suppose to help with your stomach but apparently his body had other ideas.
Soon after he took the pill, more like ten seconds later he threw up. Yep, we were in trouble…trouble with a capital T!

Bethany
I see that Jake is hurled over on the sidewalk and immediately go into mean sister mode. “Jake what the heck is wrong with you,” I say in a snotty voice. After I find out that he’s actually severely sick, compassionate mom mode takes over and I immediately start analyzing the situation and see what I can do to help. Right before he threw up all over the sidewalk I sat next to him and prayed over him. After he threw up, which smelled SO GOOD by the way, I did the honors of getting out the hose and spraying the chunks of pineapple that were still in full shape, now laying in vomit. yumm! At this point I new he needed to get to the hospital. I volunteered to take him to the hospital and by 5:30am, Jake, Ray, and myself were on our way to the hospital. When we arrived they gave Jake a bed in the emergency room and Ray and I waited patiently to find out what would happen next. As we are waiting we see a rather pregnant screaming lady being carried in by what appeared to be her family. Now we had Jake screaming in pain in one bed, and the bed next to him we had a very pregnant lady ready to spread her legs at any second and give birth. I immediately put a stop to this and demanded that the nurses get us a room and admit Jake into the hospital. They drew Jakes blood and the amount of time that It took scared me a lot. I sat next to him while I watched the blood drip like molasses. I knew this wasn’t a good sign. Jake was extremely dehydrated. Once we got to his room Ray (who spoke Thai) had to leave. So there I sit alone with Jake screaming and moaning in pain in his bed, while nurses come in and out of the room looking to ME to give them information. Lord Help me…… but really……..

Jake – Patience is a Virtue
Soon after being admitted to my small room at approximately 6:15, I was made aware that the X ray technician would not be arriving to the hospital until 8:00. Still rapidly breaking into painful fits of cramping, I semi-patiently waited for the X ray technician to arrive. 7:00. 7:30. 8:00. 8:30. 9:00. My patience had long passed hours ago, and still no sign of the technician. Becoming more and more ornery by the minute, a mixture of pain and exhaustion, I started to get passively angry. Finally, at 9:15, the nurse wheeled me down to the x ray room. I felt relieved that the process of fixing me up had finally begun, but any hope that I gained of getting out of the hospital soon was short lived.
stay tuned folks….. the best is YET to come
