“As I crossed the border of Bulgaria into Greece I was instantly hit by the beauty around me. Here I was surrounded by a fortress of mountains enveloped into the valley with hidden homes throughout the hills. With lush green and ancient earth surrounding them. The trees were green as can be some fat and wide others tall and thin, standing straight as a soldier.

Out to my right I saw a small river or what appeared to be but low and behold it was a mighty one filled to the brim with waters raging. We traveled along these rushing waters for a while till we parted ways. To my left on top of the high hills were windmills, white and a stark contrast to the blue sky and green fields beneath them. As I traveled farther into this mysterious but known country of ancient pasts and untold future.

I had to pause for a moment for here I was traveling into one of the most studied places with its rich history and well kept secrets, I couldn’t help but smile at myself because I was about to set foot into a region I had studied so many countless hours in college and with some hopes of finding some hidden jewel not yet known.

This jewel though that I was hoping for wasn’t one that is to be found amongst the dirt or to be worn or sold but to be told. A jewel as it were that has to be uncovered from within the soul. The soul of the human whose heart has been through so much and has traveled great distances that has been placed under great pressures from the world around it and now it was time for it to be unveiled, to see the beauty within. Was it my soul or someone else’s that needed to be shown I wasn’t sure of.”

Within times of pressure, when you feel the world gripping and holding you down are the times in which you get the choice. The choice to just survive, or the choice to stand up and fight. Although in these times to fight doesn’t mean not to deal with brokenness, no, rather it means to actually have brokenness. For you can never truly fight without first being broken, because then you know what you are fighting for. It is in those times when all seems hopeless, and lost that greatness comes and hope restored. Because there in those moments is when something in you shifts, your soul says “GET UP, ITS TIME TO FIGHT!”

Even though there is a shift in your soul, it doesn’t mean that it’ll become easier to deal with, it simply means that you are actually ready, ready to go through the grieving process, ready to get better, and ready to not just survive but to live. It is here in these moments that we get another choice. A choice to bury the pain or find the treasure within it. We often see times like this as awful, not right, or they shouldn’t happen to us. Yet it is in these times that God is wanting to show you something beautiful, for you see there is a BLESSING IN BROKENNESS.

My question for you is are you willing enough to see the greater story that is being written? Are you willing to see that where God has you is in greater intimacy and dependency on Him? Will you choose to face whatever you are feeling and see God’s beauty amongst it? Its hard and its tough, and yet its beautiful. “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him” (Lamentations 3:21-25).
