Ukraine……
A place where high heels will make you fit in, sneakers won’t
Where fresh food is bountiful- apple, plum, pear trees;
grapes, walnut trees, and many gardens.
A place where meals are important
simple hot cereal for breakfast, borscht for lunch,
and a variety of deliciousness for dinner.
A place known for its sweets and cuisine
cabbage rolls, blood sausage, soups, breads,
candies, chocolate, pastries, etc.
A place of history and simplicity
where government vehicles are antiquated
sometimes you have to remind yourself what year it is.
A place of family values and respect
where a nine year old boy will stop and pick flowers
for his mom on the side of the road.
A place that is a lot differant from America
where coal miners make more then doctors
and some only make $100 a month.
A place that has a lot of supermarkets
where I can get an apple for 10 cents
and good dark chocolate for $1.
A place where being differant is rare
avoid looks by dressing nice and not
lauging or smiling in public…too much.
A place where roads may compete with Africa
potholes galore and people driving on both sides
so they can drive super fast without hitting them.
A place I see beautiful landscapes
fields of sunflowers and colorful hills
and towns with gray buildings and statues of Lenin.
A place where talent is plentiful
piano, singing, guitar, etc. is a must
for most to know and is valued.
A place where health care is cheap
get a wisdom tooth pulled for $30
and simple blood tests for free.
A place you will fall in love with
if not with the food, then eventually
the people and simplicity….I did.
