Gisborne is the farthest east city in the WORLD so we are the first to see the sun rise…..and yes it is early
Gisborne is also the place that Kiwi’s (New Zealanders) go for holiday (vacation).
There is a hole in the ozone layer here which means when you go out in the sun, you will burn in like 5-10 minutes
New Zealand has a golden kiwi that they don’t export…..must try it before leaving
Gisborne doesn’t have many stoplights and no stop signs; just roundabouts (try driving a van on the left side of the road around these…..pretty fun:))
Sausage Sizzle is a staple here: grilled sausage with carmalized onions on bread with butter and ketchup…..okay the first 2 times but when it is your lunch for two weeks…not so good.
We frequent the local Pak N Save where there is no bags to put your groceries in
(awesome!) but there is yummy bulk food!
Fish and Chips is also popular here and it usually includes Fried Sausage as well…..oh the sausage…….what kind of meat are you really??
Here are some pictures of fish and chips and other stuff. Also please enjoy these two videos made by me and my team mate Sarah. We were on the bus to Gisborne and very intrigued by our driver. He was almost like a tour guide and basically chatted over the PA the whole time. The problem with the ride was the windy mountain roads and how we were all feeling nauseous! Not fun but an experience.
