I don’t know what to
write. Not because there’s nothing to share. There’s too much.
I want to
share stories about the time we have spent at Deliverance Church Southlands.
The family we’ve met there. The honesty and passion this church exudes. The
small groups we are welcomed into. The families who have opened their houses.
I want you know what God’s been working out in me. The realizations He’s given.
The Sunday School clichés that have become reality. The places God has opened
in my heart I didn’t know were closed.
I want you to hear about my teammates. The people who sleep under the same
mosquito net with me. The ones who understand how frustrated I am with wearing
a skirt everyday. The struggles we have, the times we share.
I want to show you the heart of this thing we’re doing. I’m still figuring it
out, so showing it to you would be the easiest way. But until you arrive in
Nairobi…
My heart, our heart, is for Freedom. Love. Truth. Kingdom. These words seem so small, so trivial, so meaningless. And
without showing them, without walking them out, they are. Without being able to show you… Even talking about these
ideas with the people who are here with me, sometimes the only word we have to
offer is “Yes.
Yes.
God has us here for such a time as this.
Yes.
I saw kingdom today when Anton beamed from ear to ear as he was introduced as a
new brother in Christ and felt accepted in a family.
Yes.
I saw love displayed when that child was held in her arms while we walked
around the slums.
Yes.
I heard truth proclaimed when we crammed ten American and Kenyan
twenty-something year olds into Mma Grace’s living room last night.
YES.
WE ARE BRINGING FREEDOM!
All of this…all of this love, kingdom, freedom, truth-
it’s
not from an experience in Kenya.
Or Ireland. Or Ukraine. Or Romania.
It’s about a WAKING UP of the faith we claim in Jesus.
