I’m writing this during a service at Betel, a drug rehab home near Bray, Ireland. Tyler, Heather, Casey and Dave are leading worship.

Better is one day in your courts than thousands elsewhere.

…in your courts…

My thoughts turn. I’ve been in His courts. Minutes ago I sat in His courts with one of His favorites, His princess. We sat in His courts, both daughters of the King. I was privileged to hear the story of this beloved daughter rescued from the grips of addiction, cutting and suicide. Now she knows her daddy, rests in His courts and continues to search out her Father’s heart.

Yesterday I got to stand at the doorway and call out to another one of His precious daughters. Standing on the streets of Dublin, I walked into a conversation Brittany was having during our time of street outreach. Holly-a gorgeous, searching 21 year old girl. Brit and I got to talk with her about our Daddy, answer questions, and share with her how our hearts came to rest in His courts. We weren’t “slapping her across the face with the Bible, as she confessed she had come to think of Christians. But we were able to deliver a letter from her Dad, full of promises and love, as Brittany felt led to walk with her down to the bookstore and buy her a Bible. Hugging her before she walked away, I truly felt like I was hugging a sister.

I’m encouraged by the moments I got to spend, honored to be a daughter of God’s, sharing these times. This is better. Living a life in His courtyard, sitting with his daughter, calling out to another. Living a life like this, no matter where in the world…in His courts is better.

This isn’t meant to sound high and lofty. This is honestly sharing some deep stuff from my heart, and what I experienced and felt over the last few days. During a time of sweet worship, I was able to see these experiences in this light. Seeing this challenges me.

What does life in His courts look like to you? When’s the last time you sat down on His marble steps with another member of the royal family and talked about the great things you’ve received from the King or experienced in those innermost courts? When’s the last time you listened to and pictured  the places where your brothers and sisters have been called out from, realized how truly amazing our God is to draw us out of those situations, lifestyles and mindsets? When’s the last time you called out to someone to come and share the wonder of His courts with you?
