my heart is overflowing this thanksgiving. overflowing thankfulness and gratitude for my family, my friends, my supporters, my team, for my squad.
i’m thankful for my ministry here in pacasmayo, peru. i’m thankful that i get to help clean wherever there’s a need. i’m thankful that i get to teach english to the students with their attentive yet very easily distracted minds. i’m thankful for those who are very engaged and for those who are very shy. i’m thankful that we get to teach english to the members of the church who want to learn. i’m thankful for the friends i’ve made here. i’m also very thankful that the beach is so close to us.
yesterday our hosts invited us into their home for thanksgiving. we weren’t expecting the most amazing thanksgiving dinner because we’re in Peru but let me tell you, it was more than amazing. our hosts made turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, gravy, fruit salad and pumpkin pie. then my team and i took rolls, green beans, mashed potatoes and a chocolate cake.
after we ate we played games, watched the kids perform a cute puppet show about thanksgiving and talked— a lot.
before starting the race i was scared of the holidays. i didn’t want them to come. i was too scared that i would be oh so homesick and ruin it for myself but yesterday i realized that it takes too much time and energy to feel that way when i could be present and grateful for where i am. i’ll have my whole life to spend the holidays with my family and thanksgiving in peru will probably only happen once. yes, i do wish i could have spent it with my family because i miss them, BUT this opportunity is something huge and i and thankful that i’m here.
i never thought i would be thanking God for letting me spend the holidays away but — thanks God that i GET to spend the holidays away this year and that you have shown me that i lack nothing here in peru (or anywhere ever).
this thanksgiving i am very thankful for: my family, my squad (that kate fooshee is back on the field from getting medical treatment in the states), my team, my Heavenly Father, my boyfriend, my friends back home, my church family, my job (because they’re holding my position until i get back!!) and so many more things.
what are YOU most thankful for this year?
