I have a surprising World Race Training Camp video testament of evangelism that I want to share with you, but first let me give you some background context.
Just the word “evangelism” used to make me cringe. The idea of randomly talking and opening up to strangers about my life and my beliefs made me extremely uncomfortable and fearful. Fear of controversy, fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of inadequacy were all fears that kept me from sharing my faith with others.
Being in love with Jesus’ changes everything.
Teresa, an Adventure in Missions staff member, put it this way…when you are in love you want to tell everyone about it, even if they have not asked. You do not hold back or hide your feelings, and you look for any excuse or reason to talk about him/her.
For me, that person is Jesus.
Because I’ve fallen in love with Jesus, evangelism is now something that excites me (who would have thought?). The joy, honor and privilege of being able to share my love for Jesus and what He has done in my life is fun! All fears have been removed, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to tell people from 11 different countries about Jesus.
One of my favorite days at World Race Training Camp was Day 8 when our teaching session revolved around evangelism. Not your typical evangelism though, evangelism led by the Holy Spirit.
What does that mean exactly? Well, instead of just “going out” and approaching people or randomly knocking on doors, we practiced asking the Holy Spirit through prayer to speak to us by first giving us visions.
It was something I’ve never really tried before or at least never truly believed that the Holy Spirit would speak to me, Ally Miller, in that way. So as you can image, I felt a bit uncomfortable sitting in a circle with my team being asked to name out loud to my teammates words, colors, images or objects that at the time seemed silly and nonsensical, but appeared in my mind.
But, I chose to step out in faith, risking looking or sounding foolish and getting it all wrong because I believe the Lord rewards us when we do.
After practicing this new way of praying, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to my teammates and me through visions, our team left campus with the assignment to evangelize in Clermont, Georgia.
This video picks up right after we arrived and prayed for more visions to lead our outreach. SPOILER ALERT: the Lord is SO GOOD!
