• You think the Indian people are shaking their head to say “No” but realize that it is simply a head  wobble that Indian people us that says they are listening or “Okay”
  • When the Indian people make a “spiceless” dish because they know Americans can’t handle their spices…but it still hotter than anything you’ve had in the States
  • You have random heat rashes all over your body, at all times
  • You are concerned that your skirt that goes 6 inches past your knee is too promiscuous
  • You can make someone’s day by simply being white and smiling at them
  • Every time you walk into a home they make sure there are enough seats for everyone and serve you Sprite or Thums Up (it’s like Coke but tastes a little different)
  • An Indian boy with an ice cream refrigerator on his bike follows you to your Pastor’s house. After refusing ice cream many times, he hands you an ice cream and says “Free” but then expects you to pay for it
  • You take your shoes off before you enter any building or home
  • You wake up at 7 each morning because that is when the power turns off in the entire state for 2 hours and you have trouble sleeping without the fan on
  • People make an Indian dish for you that only use for being celebrations like weddings
  • People ask you to pray for them for anything and everything
  • Your neighbor that lives upstairs visits you three times in one day, one of which she insisted you come up to her apartment to eat dessert and drink Sprite. Her words exactly: You come now. How can you turn that down?
  • You go to this neighbor's house for lunch and she proceeds put her hands in your food so that you have the perfect mix of flavor and rice
  • You are afraid to smile and look men in the eye because it is against Indian culture because it is considered flirting for a woman to do that to a man.
  • People serve you in absolutely any way they can and love doing it. I have yet to have to get up and get my own food or drink or take my plate to the kitchen. It is always served to me.
  • During every meal, you are asked at least twice if you want more even if you still have food on your plate.
  • You have to have a driver because there is absolutely no way you could drive on the roads on your own
  • You get to watch children pray and worship with eyes closed and arms lifted and get to pray for them to become strong men and women of God who serve Jesus all the days of their lives
  • You miss getting hugs tremendously because hugs are not common in India at all
  • You are getting a sari made and can’t wait to wear it so you can look like the women of India
  • You are constantly amazed at the fact that there are 55 Rupees for every American dollar so many things that cost 2-3 dollars in the States cost about 30 cents
  • You get to smile, laugh with, and most importantly, share the Gospel with people that have been oppressed because of the caste system for generations and generations
  • You love your driver, Soloman, and absolutely adore his heart to serve. You also can’t help but worship Jesus every time you’re around him because you know his testimony is full of alcoholism and abusing his wife before He came to Christ. Now you get to watch him lead worship and see how much joy and love he has for His Savior
  • People ask “How are you” and “What is your name” because that is the only English they know
  • People struggle to say your name because their language does not have the “A” sound like English does
  • You finally get the courage to throw your trash on the ground after 2 weeks of searching for trash cans that don’t exist
  • Every time you walk or drive you share the road with wild dogs and cattle
  • Every meal you have has rice incorporated in it somehow. Every. Single. Meal.
  • When you arrive at a village, you are greeted with flower petals be tossed at you by the women of the village
  • You hear Jenifer Jones say “It’s amazing what you find in your bra at the end of the day”
  • You are thankful it is monsoon season because the rain brings a wonderful breeze and refreshing yet torrential downpours
  • You force Indian men to allow you to hold on to their arm/hand (totally against Indian culture) as you walk along the slippery and muddy streets so that you don’t completely face plant in the mud
  • You have been given more Sprite in the past two weeks than you've had in all your life beforehand
